WavePointer accompanies SNCF's Avelia Horizon very high-speed trains

WavePointer "RailTAG Beacons" become the digital standard in the new Avelia Horizon high-speed trains of the French national railroad company SNCF

More than 100 high-speed trains of the new TGV Avelia Horizon are to be deployed for commercial operation in France under an innovation partnership framework agreement on behalf of SNCF Voyageurs.

"This order once again seals the success of high-speed trains and the Avelia Horizon platform. This solution meets SNCF's technological, economic and competitive challenges in an environment of strong passenger demand for low-carbon mobility solutions," said Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, President of Alstom France.

The trains on order are new-generation 4-volt high-speed trains that meet the requirements of European traffic. The Avelia Horizon portfolio achieves ambitious targets in terms of competitiveness in the rail sector and profitability for SNCF Voyageurs, with 20% lower total acquisition costs than the previous generation.

The Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF; National Company of French Railways) is the French state railroad company with headquarters in Saint-Denis near Paris. It operates almost all rail traffic in France and Monaco, the TGV high-speed train, parts of the Paris RER suburban service and Line 4 of the Paris tramway. Its subcompany SNCF Réseau owns the route network. SNCF is a member of the Railteam alliance.

Pioneering Digitalization of High-speed trains

By using high-tech radio technology (RailTAG.com Beacons) from WavePointer.com, the quality of the usage & survey data as well as the digital passenger services in the new trains should also be raised to "a new level". For this purpose, an international tender was held in 2022, where WavePointer was selected as the best product.

In addition, this technology can be used in the future for other applications, such as control forecasts, improved Internet in vehicles, clean & repair, utilization measurements, car queuing and guidance systems, enhanced customer information, passenger services, be-in/be-out, post-pricing (pay-as-you-go) or support for persons with reduced mobility.

"As an innovative high-tech company, we are thrilled to be able to accompany such a forward-looking project," explains WavePointer. "The development of the "TGV" stands in the history of high-speed trains as a unique example of progress and technical achievement. The fact that we can be part of this success story with WavePointer in the latest train generation makes us very proud. At the same time, it also shows us that we ourselves have great products to offer. "

WavePointer develops and produces the technology of the radio beacon infrastructure in this project - coordinating and supplying directly to the train manufacturer Alstom.

WavePointer technology not only fulfills the demanding radio communication services in the project on a technical top level for years and 24/7, but also supports the approval requirements for high-speed trains. The highest technical standards in terms of safety and reliability apply to the transportation of passengers. In addition, WavePointer devices are also exposed to considerable stress over many years. WavePointer undertakes extensive development and certification to meet these industry requirements (e.g. CE RED, RoHS, IEC, EN 50121-3-2, EN 55011, EN 61000-4-6, EN 45545, EN50155, EN45545 HL3, UN ECE R 118, UN ECE R 10).
