WavePointer wins IOT tender from Stadler-Rail for New Berlin Public Transport Subway
Stadler-Rail also opts for excellent IOT beacon technology RailTAG from WavePointer in the New Berlin Subway
Stadler was able to prevail in another international bidding process and emerged as the winner of the largest tender ever issued by Berlin's public transport authority (BVG) for the supply of up to 1,500 new subway cars for use in the Berlin subway network. The framework agreement, worth a total of up to around three billion euros, is also one of the biggest ever supply contracts in Europe.
Part of the framework agreement is a fixed minimum order quantity of 606 wagons. Stadler will thus deliver 376 wagons for two- to four-car units for the small and large profiles in an initial call-off from 2022. A further 230 wagons have been firmly ordered but will only be called off at a later date. In addition, there is the possibility of calling off up to 894 further wagons from the framework agreement. The volume of this firm order is around €1.2 billion and also includes the supply of spare parts.
This major project is being managed by Stadler Germany. Stadler had already announced that it would invest up to 70 million euros in the site in Berlin-Pankow. The new operational concept not only includes the construction of a new production hall, but also creates new and optimized space for logistics and commissioning.

Stadler Germany had been looking for a technology provider for the introduction of state-of-the-art beacon infrastructure in a Europe-wide tender in 2022. WavePointer was identified as the optimal supplier and is now contributing its proven technology www.RailTAG.com to the New Berlin Subways project. Thus, delivery of tens of thousands of devices will already start at the end of 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. WavePointer will then be represented throughout the new BVG subway fleet.
